Can you upgrade the engine?

I have 2003 GTI with a bad 717 engine which I am getting ready to send out for rebuild. Is it possible to put a larger engine in this beast? If you went with a 787, what would need to be replace? (Please don't say everything)

Can you keep the same electronics?

only electronics would, is for you do some research and see what parts are/have same numbers...coil, rectifier, mpem..etc. If you can take gander at 787, then check/measure engine cradle, see if line-up w/exiting mounts in boat, other than that, dont see why not...
