Hey Guys,

Ok so I picked up a 1995 speedster today for $500 with trailer. It has everything but is missing 1 motor. My question is, should I find a 94xp or 95 gtx and pull the motor, or can I use the 717 motor out of a 96' gti that I have that has the 717 motor. Will it bolt up and all electronics hook up and work right? Or would it be better to keep it with both 657x motors? I know the 717 has 5 hp more power and not sure if that is going to cause a problem or is there other things I am missing and its not a good idea? One 657x and one 717 motor in the same boat..........

It would be a lot better to get a 657x. 95 SPX's have them also. In addition to the power difference they have different water routing and different cables that run the throttle and choke. It's not as simple as moving the carbs over because the intake ports are in different locations and they use a different rotary valve. A 94XP has a different electrical system so if your donor engine comes from that you will need to swap out the flywheel and stator.

On my 94 speedster, I have the twin 657x engines. My magneto is a 5 wire configuration on both engines. I just pulled a 657x engine from a 95 gtx Saturday. It definitely has a 4 wire stator/magneto.
You will want to check that out before you drop the engine in, or, run the mpem for the new engine you get. I converted my boat to twin mpems due to my original was fried when I bought it.
You can swap the flywheel and stuff and keep the original setup also.

Ok, ill have to keep that in mind when I buy the ski with the motor I need. I found a 95' spx , so Im going to pick that up this weekend and go from there......... Thanks for the help so far on this guys !!!
