Can I add a tach to a 98 GTI?

Hello...

I want to add a tach to my 98 GTI....There isn't a plug under the front cover. Would anyone happen to know the schematic for connecting the wires or is it possible?

Yes, I added a tach to my 97 GTI 6-7 years ago. I used an oem tach from a gtx and you only need power from the other gauges then tap into the mag signal wire. It's been too long but I think the wire was purple striped on the 97.

The easier thing would be to add a tiny tach.

I know on my GTI it had some purple on the wire which may be different in 98. I'll have to try and find my old notes somewhere. I know on my recent builds I've used the yellow wires coming from the rectifier but that was for skis with the old style MPEM.

Thanks Ankeneyou....Yes this is probably the older style MPEM....just a single plug along with Rectifier connections...My understanding is the black/purple wires are gauge in/out and are daisy chained together...the single wire from gauge connects to the signal wire off the magneto...just need to know which color wire that is...Thanks again

It can be done. Purple wire for me on the 99. Also got a nice housing to put the third gauge in (hats off to [MENTION=77343]Ankeneyou[/MENTION])
