C180: how does the OEM bilge pump connect to hull?

Did a complete cleaning and power washing of the bilge on the boat over the weekend. Although my pump works I noted it's not attached to the hull although the (separate) switch is. I'm curious to how these are attached?!?!

On most boats they are screwed or 5200'd down to a base that it snaps into. What was BPR solution in 2007?

it's a pretty small pump always (500gph) so I'm thinking of upgrading to something a big heftier.

A picture would be great. Mine came out from the base and the base was screwed down. I too went from 500 GPH to 1000 GPH

I'll get back in there tonight now that it's dry...and with a better light. Was the switch separate on yours or self contained?

I don't mind putting a screw where one was to begin with but adding one sounds scary. I don't know how thick things are and where yet!

I redid mine when I had the motor out. Originally it had an electronic switch that would get oil on it and run continuously. So I put a float switch in the boat. There is plenty of meat to put a screw in riser for the water channel.

I forgot to take photos yesterday while i was in there. I got the SC out for a rebuild and cleaned up the last of the bilge. I could see the switch was a separate unit from the pump (not self contained) and made by Johnson. If that is an electronic switch (mine is a 2007) then I think you are spot on that it needs to come out. I'll put in a self contained mechanically switched Rhule, prob about 1000GPH if it will fit. So the switch is still there but I didn't see holes or screws for the pump laying on it's side.

I've never heard the term "riser" before but are you talking about the floor having enough meat for a short screw. I'll take it these boats are not cored in any way? Is there any foam let alone wood?

If it's in front of the engine like I have in my picture there is a rise in the fiberglass to help route the water. I have put screws into that section. The actual hull is fiberglass with no core.
