Bypass Dess Lanyard

Sorry....

No, you can't bypass the DESS (digital electronic security system). This is to prevent theft and if you don't have the lanyard that's programmed to it, you have to go buy one and have it programmed to the mpem. If you try to bypass these systems, you'll likely blow your mpem........that'll set you back a few hundred dollars.......

I Have The Right Lanyard It Worked Fine In Oct When I Rode It Last I Got It Out And Put New Battery In It Now When I Put Lanyard On I Get No Beeps And No Power To The Guages If I Cross The Solenoid Starter Turnss Fine But No Spark Because Lanyard Wont Connect Any Way To Check And Be Sure Lanyard Is Bad Or Temp Bypass To Start Or Any Thing I Can Check I Checked Solenoid Its Good Batt Is At 12.5 Volts

ahhhhh!

Now that's a different story. Yes, you can go to the advanced diagnostic mode. It sounds like your post may be bad. It's a magnetic electrical device that has to make contact with your lanyard to read the ROM chip inside for the mpem to recognize it. If it's the wrong one, it will give you one long beep.

With your lanyard off the post, push the start stop button 5 times. You should hear a long beep and a short beep. Then, put the key on the post. If it starts, then all is fine. If you get a series of beeps, count them. Re-post and tell us what you got.

Never clean this electrical connection with a solvent or use die-electric grease. You can use warm, soapy water to clean the lanyard and post. Teh year of your ski makes me believe your post is bad. Not to expensive to replace and is a simple fix you can do. Mine went out on my 1997 last year with the same symptoms that your having. I replaced the post and haven't had a problem again.

Let me know what you get in the advanced diagnostic mode.

I agree....

I agree. If the lanyard was bad, you'd get a beep to say so. But if you connect the cap and get no beeps at all, there is no attempt at communication at all with the mpem. So, most likely, if the cap is clean, it's the post.
Get one from your local dealer or www.babbittsonline.com. There, it will cost about $50 or 60 bucks...........I don't remember how much I paid for mine.
