Any thoughts or suggestions on floating, drive-up PWC docks, such as those sold by Carolina Docks on ebay?

They seem more convenient than a lift, and cost is about the same or less.

pwc dock

I actually road up on one on my maiden voyage tonight, the neighborhood bar where I launch has Ez Ports I think they are called, from Connect A Dock. The one I pulled up on was sitting lower than the others. I was disappointed to find that my stern wasn't even out of the water though sitting on the dock. Perhaps I needed to go forward more, or perhaps the dock has a problem.

It was disappointing, though, as I had hoped to take out my plugs and drain the bilge. That's a matter for another thread. ;)

Floating docks....

They actually take a little getting use to in using. I'll bet you approached the dock pretty slow.
The vids I've seen on these things, is they pull in and up pretty quickly. I don't mean coming in on plane, but you can't just nudge the nose on and push. Biggest reason is your only gonna go so far before the pump loses suction. Come in about 4 or 5 miles an hour and I'll bet the whole ski will rest on dock.
Stick around that dock area and watch others.......I bet when they come in, it's not at idle.

Back in N.Y when I was racing Kawasaki stand-up ski's , a buddy invited me to ride at his house on Burden lake. He had one at his house, and I thought it was a blast. I approached it at about 45 mph and bounced off it and cleared the floating dock and the wooded dock it was attached by 20 feet and landed in the water on the other side...his dad got all pissed off and I was never asked to come over to ride at their house again. I always had a habit of jumping over things that I wasn't suppose to...the dock, anchored rafts, docked boats, screaming swimmers...rule of thumb...if you can jump over it don't stop...keep going...lol I think I only hit 1 dock, and it broke my handle bar pole. Well one of the 18 I poles I destroyed anyway.:ack:

The only bad thing that I have found about floating docks are that snakes tend to hang around them. I had one hanging out of my jet drive last year so I turned my ski on and made snake stew.
