buying 2007 seadoo challenger/180, hours meter

I'm thinking of buying a 2007 sea doo challenger 180 for $18,000 with 15 hours on it, was listed for $19,500. Reading your forum I saw that the hours reset on some of them. Has anyone had this problem? Also, is there a way to tell what the true hours are?

Thanks

dude, brand new challenger 180 is about that price these days. If its a SE then maybe its worth it (has a tower and bimini top).

Hours.........

They may be able to reset the hours on the readout, but they can't be reset in the mpem, unless you buy a new mpem.

The boat sounds like a nice one. The price is right too. But, check it over really good. Look for signs of oil or other liquids in the hull. Dangling wires and if possible, do a compression test.

Call Smith Powersports in Hayesville NC. Ask for Charles Smith, the owner. I got an '08 180 SE for $18500 out the door. (not inc sales tax). That includes the 2k discount they were offering (I think they offer a gas card now).

He told me he would match that deal. It would be worth at least another 1k to me to get a boat with zero hours on it AND a warranty.

Oooh DAM that is a deal. No mine was the SE but not wake tower. Also, I had to come and pick it up. I bought in June/July timeframe. I bet whatever he has leftover now he is dying to get rid of. I'd love to have the wake tower, if for no other reason than is looks COOL

FYI, I think the tower alone was ~2k option. I say go for it!

SOB!! :reddevil:

Enjoy man. It is a real blast. Very simple to maintain and operate as well. I absolutely love mine. In fact I may take it out this weekend if the weather holds out

I really like my unit. If the boat has not been to shop for cluster program upgrade the 15hrs is would be at least 40-55hrs when program has been preformed at BRP dealer. My boat went in for cluster upgrade at 12 hrs and came out with 32yrs. If you get the serial number you can call BRP to find out if it has extra 3yrs warranty. Check supercharger washers. If the S/C still has the ceramic washers, Replaced with steel ones ASAP! Mine when out! But the Boats a blast!

I don't get it. Why would the offer a three year warranty on some boats?

I have heard of the hr meter issue. I am pretty sure its not a problem on '08 models though.

Also, as far as I know, all sea doo boats still use the ceramic washers. Only the wave runners are using the steel ones.

Wave Runners are Yamaha's water craft. Only the PWC's have the issue of the washers, the jet boats don't have the issue from my understanding from seadoo.

People purchase the extra 3yr warranty and its transferable. The reason you dont hear of the s/c washers going in the boats as much is because they dont get air time as the PWC do. My S/C washers went. I get air! BRP put steel ones in they last 100hrs.

Hi Karl, You really help a lot of people out here at seadooforum..Thanks. Heres what I really think on the s/c washer issue...The PWC's get airborn more often and over rev the s/c clutch, due to the lack of water feeding the impleller and there are so many 215hp 4-Tec PWC's out there. Thats why you dont hear of it that often in the 215hp Boats. Iv hear of issues within less than 5hrs. But what I can gather from talking to dealers, Boat shows, and forums its like 1 out of every 10 made are defective..??? they made over a million of these engines not all of them supercharged. thats over 100,000 bad S/C clutches.= BRP service.

All the jet boats now only offer super charged engines..no naturally aspirated ones... Lets see what BRP does in the future now... The biggest problem is throttle control. Back it off after you leave the water and you'll never have a problem.
