Found that side of the burnt piston had a lot of thin black liquid in the case which seems to be mainly gas. The side of the good piston has a small amont of clean oil in the bottom. Can I assume the gas got in there by running the engine after the piston holed?

Should I have done a pressure check before dissassmbling ?

Thanks

This is not good!

The liquid in the bottom end is mainly water. Probably explains the burnt piston. There was an incident where the engine compartment was flooded with water but after blowing out as much as possible through the plug holes the engine started and was run normally for another dozen hours or so before the piston holed.
Dont see any rust down there strangely enough.

Its been sitting since October with the water in it. Is it salvageable or terminal?

Thanks

I can't diagnose anything without good pics. So... I'm not going to try. But.... if it's been sitting 8 months with water in it... that crank is done.

So sounds like i may be talking about both top end and bottom end rebuild or new engine. Guess i may as well go ahead and pull it out.
