Nashville, GA - Chaparral Boats, Inc. announced a supply agreement today with Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) to power a planned new line of jet boats, slated for introduction later this year.

“BRP is excited to begin this relationship with Chaparral Boats, a company with a proud heritage, excellent reputation and one that shares our commitment to the marine industry,” said Alain Villemure, Vice President and General Manager of BRP’s Marine Propulsion System division.
“BRP’s Rotax 4-TEC in-board jet propulsion system is a proven power source and the perfect complement to Chaparral’s award-winning line-up of boats. We believe that this strategic relationship promises to deliver consumers a best-in-class boating experience that’s supported by an outstanding dealer network.”

I just checked the Chaparral Boat Owners Forum, how should I say this? Current owners are less than enthusiastic about a jet boat. Interesting reading.

I wonder if Chaparral will use SeaDoo design hulls, if you thought SeaDoo boats were expensive, these are going to be in the stratosphere. Along the same lines I've also heard SeaRey is getting back in the jet boat business.

Chaparral make a very nice quality boat. I will be curious to see what the pricing looks like.

Given that the jet boat market share grew in the last few years, while at the same time, the number of sport boat manufacturers that left the industry was large, it is clear that BRP had been evaluating their inability to grow the market share by themselves and be profitable. That being said, I'm sure they had been speaking with many other companies on how they could best salvage and sell what they had already invested. SeaRay and Chappie are not cheap, but it makes good sense economically, and at the same time, BRP is protecting their own dealer network. Don't think that the high number of BRP loyal dealerships won't get new lines with BRP technology in them. It's going to happen, in an effort to sell and service more engines, and assist the dealers with the loss of one of their lines. This is just my opinion, but I think i'm right on how this is going to play out. There has been too much investment with the technology, and the network that is our there to support it. I'd love to hear a dealer on here!
