Brought my GTI130 for Winterization + 1st Service - Not Impressed

I bought my 2015 GTI130 back in June and got 20 hours on it this season. I'm very handy and can complete the winterization service myself, but i've read mixed reviews regarding servicing at the dealer to ensure that they honour my warranty in the event of an issue.

So I forked out a whopping $380 for the winterization and first inspection - When I dropped my ski off I drove through a muddy construction zone which coated my ski in mud. I had asked them to wash it (for $380 that's the least they could do).

Upon pick up, they paged someone to pull the ski out and load it onto my hitch - I get outside to find they loaded someone else's crappy old ski. They went back and got mine and to my surprise the ski had the most half *** wash that looks like someone literally took a cloth and smeared the mud around, as well as bent my license plate on the trailer.

After getting home and removing the cover I find they placed my battery on the foam feet inserts which permanently left 4 quarter size indents and scuffing.

I immediately fired off an email with pictures and have yet to receive a response (been a week).

So my question is - do I really need to service at the dealer to have them honour warranty in the event of an issue? I'm a very picky person when it comes to my assets and with that kind of carelessness, I do not want to go back.

Somehow I am not surprised at all... Hope you are not in Quebec because one dealer here made me pay a high price for its mistakes... But my ski was older and not under warranty.

How long do you still have warranty on that ski? I guess this is the same as automobiles: should you have a problem, they would ask you where your maintenance was done and this is why some people make the local mechanics fill and sign the owner's maintenance manual if they are not going to the dealer.

I try to stick to the dealer when the warranty is active, I guess your dealer is pretty sloppy.

Benji.

I still have warranty for another 3 years - and the Dealer was in Quebec actually. Loisele Sports in Gatineau.

I have a personal mechanic for my truck, if I get him
to write me some invoices for winterization service will that do in the event of a warranty claim?

In the USA, we have an item that is called "Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act"

This federal act basically states, you can do anything you want to do with your car, boat, ski, ect, ect, ect with no harm of losing your warranty coverage. The ONLY way to lose coverage is, if it can be reasonably proven that what you did caused harm to a item that would normally be warranted. So, if you cause no harm to your ski, then no matter what you are covered.

I would assume this either extends or there is something similar in Canada.

We cover a lot of stuff customers goofed up on warranty, we just charge the factory. But if it's obvious you caused the engine to crack for instance, b/c you didn't drain and install antifreeze, you eat it.

If you blew a seal b/c you filled the gear housing without taking out the vent plug, we let that slide and pass the cost of replacing the seal onto the factory.

(We try to keep the customer happy, whenever we can.)

I haven't had a service done at the dealer for many years, and I don't think my buddy has ever taken his skis in. You should check your deductible on your warranty. You may be surprised to see how high it is, and what's not actually covered. When you take into account the $100+ per hour labor they charge, you'd need to do a pretty major screw-up to justify the extra expense. In case it helps, here's a video for you ...

We have a similar law in Quebec that protects consumers (Quebec has its own Code of Law, the "Quebec Civil Code") that covers lots of consumer regulations ("Consumer Law"). Here is a link of this Law (lots and lots of pages...):

http://www2.publicationsduquebec.go...lecharge.php?type=2&file=/P_40_1/P40_1_A.html

In Quebec, we definitely also have a strong government body that regulates that as well, the "Office de la Protection du Consommateur" that has a good website also (and they can be reached by phone):

http://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/en/consumer/.

I browsed through the Civil Code quickly and did not find anything against having someone else fixing a good under warranty unless it is specified in the warranty.

As for the dealer, my bad experience was with Contant Mirabel but most likely because they don't have well trained 2-stroke mechanics anymore (in fact, they have one but when they replaced my engine and screwed up, the mechanics was on extended leave...). I never went to Loiselle Sports but a lot of people have given me good reviews of "Maximum Powersports" in Hawkesbury, Ontario, just across the bridge between Quebec and Ontario and between Montreal and Gatineau/Ottawa. I believe your warranty is valid at any BRP dealer unless it is a specific extra warranty taken directly with the dealer (that would suck)? If I had to buy a new Sea-Doo or Ski-Doo, I would strongly consider this store in Hawkesbury.

I just ordered a 2016 RXT 300, Loiselle was one of the dealers I got a quote from, this was through email and based on the way it was worded I didn't by from them. You got the feeling they didn't give a $&@". I went with George's Marine in Carp. It's not too far from you and they have serviced my sled and the ski I have now.

I chose to service my GTI myself this year granted it's not under warranty but I was also quoted $380 and I wasn't spending that. Like you I rately go back to any dealer to service my toys. I buy the fluids and parts from them keep the receipts and documents mileage and my own services. Can't see how they could void my warranty when I'm servicing with their products
