Brass plug from stator drilled out. Could filings cause damage

I stripped the brass plug from the stator on my Challenger 1800. I then drilled it out, trying to be very careful not to go right through. I was able to get it loose, pull it out and then quickly cleaned up the brass filings in the area with a paper towel. My questions is simple, if a very small amount of brass filings got into the stator, could it cause damage? I know brass is a softer metal and there probably wouldn't be much.

Any thoughts?

Sure it can. If brass got in there... it can cause the bearing to gall... or you can rip the rubber seal.

If you suspect brass got in the stator... take it off, and clean it properly.
