I pulled the case halves apart on a 96 782 that I bought as a core(maybe rebuild it)only to find alot of debris like bits of green gasket and to my surprise brass filings!!
Before I pulled it apart it would not rotate 360 degrees,it would stop at about
355 degrees.
After I pulled the case halves..no problem and the big end of the mag rod is kind of scraped up.The rotary gear APPEARS to be ok
The guy that i got it off of said that he replaced a crank bearing, and the motor does turn over smoothly('cause he didn't put the piston rings back on for reassembly!!)There are no dead spots
To all : thanks for the replies on my accell pump posts..I will be looking in to the diaphram issue in the spring(just waiting for the snow to arrive)

Thanks,Greg

OK OK OK so I really didn't look before I leaped. My rotary valve gear is totally stripped, but I know why,do you?
I can see that the rotary valve got all bent out of shape and grabbed the mag intake port and stalled the gear itself. The crank's momentum kept turning it and there you go...a stripped gear
I can even see the nick on the intake port(I watch CSI ALOT) so 2 plus 2 is indeed 4.
The guy that I bought it from knew this too, but must have forgotten to tell me when I flashed the cash...so be alert and check everything before your cash makes a dash out of your pocket.

Rule of thumb is never buy anything unless you get to test ride it first, or your getting a fixer upper...for cheap and it doesn't matter..
