bombardier Mercruiser 4.3L seadoo boat jet drive misfire?

hey i was talking with a close buddie who is selling me his boat it has a misfire in 4 plugs he says it is a v 6 and said it was 2 stroke???? i dont kno much about boats but i am a auto mechanic. anyways if it is the coils he says that are no good or the cdi box how much are these parts and were do i find them? personally i dont have the boat yet and i never new of a 4.3 l 2 stroke and if it is a coil mand if its coil on plug with invidual coils?? anyways just wanted to kno befor buying it and losing my shirt on buying parts

Well... if its a seadoo Merc... it's a 2.5l V-6, 2-stroke. (not a 4.3)

I think all of the Merc engines that seadoo used had individual coil packs, and they have the CDI built into them. They did have a strange thing about them though. They balance each other, so if the #1 pack shorts out... the #2 pack stops firing.

If you get the boat, figure out exactly what engine it has, and we probably have the manual here.
 
k so its a speedster i got it it runs but i only ran for a second turned it off he says it misfires the coils have 4 wires ones a ground . can i run it with out water for a min to check spark or should i put water on it ?. i say this cuz where i live a buy water from a truck and my hose is on other side of the house i would need another hose. or what is the resistance of the coils? and which manual do i need thanks again guys im new to the boating world thanks for all your help. and how do i know what model and engine code on it

You can run it for 30 or 40 seconds before it would start to overheat. (at idle)

If you become a premium member... you can get the manual here, and do the coil troubleshooting.

BTW... what engine does it have? I think the options were a 210 or 240 hp. Also... what's the year of the boat?
 
its a 2000 speedster says 240 hp on the side the head i got spark on number 1 and 3 cylinders the rest dont spark i switch coils around and they are all good. im thinking the computer is in safe mode if thats possible? i switch the coils around over and over again and they all worded when plugged into 1 and 3. i removed the cdi box i believe and the yellow and white wire which is a signal wire for a coil 4 or 2 not sure was half pinched but looked ok and the other box which i think supplys power to the coils black yellow wire comes out and purple, had a little hole like a finishing nail hole looked a little burnt around edge ?????? any buddie know what i should do ?

I guess it could be anything... but generally, the ECU's don't give up.

I would test all the senders in the trigger assembly.
 
i cant get the manual here my card dosnt work with pay pal is there any other options

PM hfgreg to see if he can take a different form of payment. (he's one of the owners) The Merc engines are impossible to work on without the manual.


Just to let you know. I closed your other thread. It gets too confusing when there are multiple thread on the same problem. Also... as far as the comment about "No one was responding"... well... from the time/date on the post... it was less than 24 hrs from your first of 3 posts... to the time I responded. Not everyone checks this section all the time... and if you look in the "Off topic" section... you will see that I had a major computer death. So... getting my shop's new computer up and running was on top of my priority list yesterday.



With that said... get the manual, and we will help you get up and running. :cheers:
 
i got the manual i called mercury help line and paid him 20 on the phone sent me it through email . i bought the switch box or ign modual for 400$ and it didnt fix it. then found that a coil was shorted on the kill circuit and was shorting out all the other coils but 1 & 3 had spark weak spark so weak you could touch it with your hand lol.
 
i did the checks in the manual. the coils are sealed i could cut it open and repair the scr or transistor or diode that is damaged in the coil causing the short but i just removed it it ran on all 5 cylinders bought the coil put it in and it works i paid 125$ for the coil out of toronto
