Thinking about buying a late 90s Sportster/Challenger type boat. Wondering if anyone can tell me about any known issues with all the boats or any particular one, year, motor configuration, etc that I should know about.

Also I have a good friend that bot a 06RXP and will not take it in salt water. We live 3 hrs from fresh water and 10 minutes from the ocean. As a result he will only use his RXP 4 or 5 times a year. He says the corrosive effects are not worth the extra fun I can have going out 2 or 3 times a month in the bay or ocean. It's a boat for crying out loud. Is he right, or can you negate the effects of salt water corrision with meticulous cleaning after use.

Finally any tips on what that clean up should include. Time involved, etc.

Thank you.

Here is a start if you are looking for a used seaadoo.http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=134

I only run my seadoo in salt water. I rinse it down good and spray it down with wd-40 and silicone spray after each use. My new 200speedster has a inter-looping cooling system which means it only needs to be rinsed like 20 sec. to clean the exhaust of each engine. I pull my boat out about every month from my boat lift and give it a good washing and re waxing. If you keep up on regular reining and maintenance it shouldn't be a problem with the salt water. It's all about maintenance.
