Just got back from the boaters safety class (8hrs long) and got my boaters Safety certificate now I'm am legal to ride anywhere!!!

i was mad. after after 7 years of riding and boating, the game warden asks if i've had a boater's safty course. i told him no but that i had been riding since i was 14. he wrote me a ticket and said they had changed the law this past year and i was going to have to take one if i ever wanted to ride again. and that i was lucky that he was not going impound my xp.

Wow I rode for three years without it and never had a prob but I decided it was time to just be on the safe side and get the certificate

I've been playing with JetSki's since the late 70's. My first was a 1978 JS440.

Over the years, I have taken the safety classes a bout 4 times. Locally, I took it again 2 years ago, and it was fun. It was held at the local SeaDoo shop. They charged $20, but they had doughnuts and muffins for breakfast, and they made hamburgers, and hot dogs for lunch. Also... they had drinks available all day during the class. So... the $20 was really to cover the food.

I think the mandatory safety class is a VERY good thing. Back in the day, a stand-up jetski was hard to ride, and they only made 28hp. So, they were slow, and the riders had to think about what they were doing. But, now... any drunk Hill-Billy can own a 300hp, 80 mph ski, and kill someone. And since there are no federal laws about "Open Containers" with boats... DRUNK driving is common with jetskis.

I took the boat licensing course before I started. Figured better safe than sorry. I learned a lot and would recommend that everyone take it. $15 or $30 its worth it either way.

I took my test (6 week class with a test in the end) when I was 12 years old in 1996 and I just found out it may not be valid anymore, ha...I just sent it in with my info to see if I have to retake the test or if they will just send me a new copy...NJ laws and policy's suck
