newbie here. posted before but not sure if Im doing something wrong because Im not getting any replies.. I searched for the problem but couldnt anything..Just got this 005 challenger 180 and water tested it for the first time yesterday...

Had some starter issues when put in the water. fnally got her started! Went to take off and we went no where. The throttle was at full but continued to barely idle.. Any suggestions..Im really bummed...I KNOW THE BOAT HAD SAT FOR EIGHT MONTHS BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. There was a 1/4 tank of bad gas still in the boat so i topped it off with fresh premium gas hoping to spread out the bad gas....Thats all i really know...help please thanks...happy boating

Start with the basics. Change the plugs and fuel filter, and if possible drain the fuel tank and start fresh. Make sure the air intake system is clear and there have been no mice living anywhere. Also if you can give your neutral safety switch a quick check.

I know all this is pretty generic advice, but you have to start somewhere. Hope this helps.

When you hit the throttle, did the engine rev up.... What was the RPMs noted. If it went to redline or 7,000 RPM might be a problem with the pump. If you hit the throttle and no RPM increase, something with the engine.

First replace the plugs and change out the fuel. ALL 4-tec engines use NGK DCPR8E Gap/ 0.7-0.8 MM or .028-.031in.
That should get it going again.
Keep us posted on your progress.
