Blown 5amp fuses

Have 2 '99 GTI's Ski "A" blew 5 amp fuse. swapped out ski "B" mpem A ran fine but then blew 5 amp fuse again. moved mpem back to B it too blew the 5 amp. Coincedence????? 2 MPEM's going bad at about the same time? Could there be something causing the fuse to blow other than simply a bad MPEM? What should I look for? Could an over voltage from the regulator cause this? bad stator? bad ground? shorted wire? Help Please. Thanks

I am not sure what causes the problem....someone else will chime in with an answer for that. You could also do a forum search for '5 Amp' I am sure you will get a lot of hits.

What I do know is that there is a forum member named "AllThingsCustom' who has found a way to repair the bad MPEM which will save you tons of money. His name and number are in his profile...you could always contact him.

disconnect the red and yellow wires from rectifier. See if fuse pops, then..
