I have a 2008 Challenger 180 and the bilge pump will not shut off. It seems to pump water fine but runs constantly. I am starting to wonder if the sensor may be plugged with junk. Is the sensor the part that shares the same wiring harness and if so does anyone know how to clean it? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Pump is a Johnson model 0750 and it has been cleaned and the lines checked for clogs. No luck.

How loud is your bilge pump? I don't think mine even works... I hit the switch and I hear nothing, this being my first boat I dont really know what sounds correct but im assuming no sound is not a good sign?

If it runs constantly, it's probably a sensor issue. If its an aftermarket pump it could be wired wrong.

it is the original factory pump an it and I am starting to suspect the sensor. I found on another forum where there is supposed to be a single 2 or 3 A fuse in the panel for the pump. The new plan will be to pull the fuse and just use it like a switch until we get out of boating season.

It is pretty loud. I can hear it clearly standing next to the boat in the driveway.

If you want to turn off the "Auto" power... behind the battery switch... you will find a 7.5 fuse. (and a couple bigger fuses, about 20 a) Pull the 7.5 and it should turn off.

Yes... I'm suspect of the float switch too. The Johnson Prox switch is known to fail, if there is junk in it. You can replace it with the regular float style, and they are known to last longer.
