Bilge Pump Running

Twice now I have been doing something in my boat on land and notice that I can hear the bilge pump running inside. I open up the engine compartment and I see a pool of foam and the bilge grinding away. I have to pull the plug to make it stop and all the foam dissipates. Does anyone know what could cause this? I have no idea how long it is running and worried it could kill the battery if it is going for days. Thanks.

The float is stuck in the open position or the micro switch is going bad. I believe it's time for a new bilge pump.

...had the same issue here and wanted to try something before I bought a new one...I had to take my bilge sensor out and let it sit in the hot sun on the concrete all day....installed and working good now....

Check the inside of the pick up area for pieces of leaves or misc junk. Although I would think that debris would prevent it from coming on .....but you never know.

Mine has like a blue button I can press and I think if I pull it will just come off all the way...is that how I would get into it or do I need to unscrew it from the hull?

Most pumps are removable from a bracket that is mounted or glued to the hull.
