Bilge Pump Placement

Should the bilge pump on a 96 speedster be somehow fastened to the hull? Mine is just sitting there and I have to constantly fight/move it to get all the water out.

If anyone has a picture that would be great

It is virtually impossible to completely, completely, remove all the water in the hull with a bilge pump. Too many crevices and irregular channels prevent a single pump spot from getting all of the water out.

As long as the pump moves plenty of water during normal running conditions, you are fine. (This assumes you aren't taking IN abnormal amounts of water from leaks or other problems).

If you are trying to get all the water out after you pull it out of the water and cleaning up for the day, you could use some combination of siphons, wet/dry vacs and leaf blowers to move the water around and get it out.

My HX has an annoying feature - a single drain plug instead of the more common twin drain plugs. Starboard side drains, but port side cannot because of the shaft channel in the hull. So I use a leaf blower to push the water up the hull and make it come down the startboard side.

Aftermarket?

It sounds like you may have an aftermarket pump. Do you still have the water sensor connected?

These boats, because we can't easily monitor the engine compartment, came with a water sensor, that is mounted along side the pump. It's suppose to come on 10 seconds after it comes in contact with water. Then, after the pump has drained the boat, the sensor is designed to go off after 30 seconds.

You can visit our parts warehouse at the top right hand side of the forums header, then choose your boat, go to speedster electrical accessories and you'll see the mount bracket and water sensor.

I have the 97 Challenger. My shaft seal was leaking by just a bit and I didn't notice that my sensor wasn't working until I saw the swim platform underwater. I fixed it and test it regularly now............
