Best way to drain and clean my gas tank 97 gsx

So I've got a full tank of gas in my 97 GSX and I've been catching huge chunks of rust in my fuel filter. I suspect that the convenient marine gas at the station beside my storage yard is biting me. I can't think of anywhere else it could have come from, I don't even use jerry cans.

Anyhow my real question is what is the best way to get the full tank empty and clean the crap out? I'm having bogging issues and a filter bowl of rust looks like a likely culprit.

(I've done all the filters and fuel lines a year ago as well as plug leads and every other thing from wear ring and pump oil to rave valves and water box valve.)

its possible that the tank will come out right thru the front hood hole.... thats the best way, siphon out all you can to make it light, lift it out, clean & drain, then resinstall. if it won't come right out, then you can really only siphon, then swab out with about 10 rags, put a gallon of good gas in & siphon & swab again. I've had good luck using those really long pickle pickers like they sell at lowes for $3. grab a rag with it, shove it in, and swab around... its a pain, but effective. and then you can kill time by throwing matches at the rags and watch them flare up :)

well on that ski you really cant take the tank out to clean it without removing the engine.... so what i did wwas siphoned the gas out and then poured a little purple power in there and shook it back and forth then added about a gallon of gas and let it mix then sucked it all back out

if you can get that tank through that hole i will be amazed i tried for 3 days to get mine out

ya every ski is different, some come out, but most don't, but i know the hole on the gtx's are HUGE, but wasn't so sure on the GSX.
just make sure if you use a cleanser to maybe add gas, suck, add gas, suck, you really don't want any cleaning residue in there.

Heh you guys are awesome. I may have to try the rag entertainment too. I'm betting that no the tank won't come out. Small hole and really big tank, there's not enough lube in the world. Guess I'm grabbing jerry cans and my pickle grabber.
