Hey all, Im going to west marine in the morning to get some stuff. What is the best wax? Also im looking for a vinal protector/cleaner. The interior looks very good and im hoping to keep it that way. A push in the right direction would be great!!

All vinyl protectors are crap. They make the seats slippery, and products like Armor-all actually cause damage. The only thing it needs is soap and water, and to keep it covered when not in use.

As far as the wax goes... that's up to you. Personally, I use automotive products on my toys. (just because that's what I have in the garage) But generally... the new liquid waxes don't hold up as well as a good old solid Carnuba wax.

For once I'm gonna have to disagree with Ya Doc. I use aerospace 303 protectant on everything from my boat and bike to stuff around the house. It's not a greasy oily bottle of crap like armor all. It can be used on everything from vinyl to painted plastic. I spray the entire boat. Its the best UV protectant ive found. I've used it for years and everything I put it on still looks like new. Look it up and try it out, you wont be disappointed.

I agree, 303 Aerospace Protectant is a great product for boat use. I use it on all vinyl and rubber that is exposed to the sun. It has a very high UV sunscreen and does not leave an oily film. I first clean the vinyl then add a light coat of the 303 every few weeks. If you store the boat out of the sun, you don't have to apply it as often.

As far as wax, I found that natural waxes don't last that long and have to be reapplied every few weeks. What I do is prepare the fiberglass with a good polishing compound. This gets rid of all the small scratches and helps to reduce the pores in the fiberglass. I then follow up with a good poly sealant. I have found that the Poly sealants last about 6 months.

The products I use are, Zaino All-in-one, but you could use 3M Perfect-it 3000 Swirl Mark Remover if the surface doesn't have much oxidation. If it has a lot of oxidation, then I start with 3M Perfect-It 3000 Extra Cut Rubbing Compound, followed by the Zaino AIO or the 3M Swirl Mark Remover. Once the fiberglass is shiny and smooth, I use a polymer sealant. The product I like best is Zaino Z-3™ Show Car Polish, but you could use something like Meguiar’s #20 Polymer Sealant. What I like about the Zaino is that you can apply multiple layers for added protection. I usually put on two or three coats. Most other products, especially cleaner waxes, remove the the previous layer every time you add a layer, so the most you can have is one thin layer of protection.

If you stay on top of keeping the boat clean and polished, you don't have to use the polishing compound again and only have to apply the sealant every 6 months or so. Since I keep my boat covered and in a garage when not in use, I only have to apply the sealant once a year.

I use Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax. There was a wax review in last month's Boating Magazine and this stuff came out on top. I bought some, applied two coats and I am very impressed. Not only did it clean some of the oxidation crap off but the shine is great. Very happy with the purchase. I got mine from West Marine but I know Amazon has it as well.

ok. I'll give it a shot. But if it's greasy... I'm go'in to hunt you down, and put it on your seats !!! (lol)

Seriously... I'll check it out, just so I can give my real opinion about it.

Where is the best place to get the aerospace stuff?

I order it online. The regular spray bottle has lasted me over 2 years. I spray it on the plastic stuff like the windshields like 2 times a season and the seats a few times.

it really got the shine back ? I might try it and buff like a mad man in a spot and see if I can get the shine back, my hull is pretty dull right now. thx for posting

I haven't personally used it but a few members have raved about a product called Buff Magic and said it works wonders on oxidized stuff.

You may need something specifically for oxidation. 3M makes some great stuff for that. When I get home later I will lookup the product names and post them for you.

I have buff Magic, $35 a can too but it lasts forever !
maybe i'm getting bored too quickly when buffing, seems like after about 10 minutes i'm looking around for an excuse to stop.

O.K. I wasn't going to say any thing, but things are slow at work. I use Blue Ice (by Turtle Wax), but only after a polish. You can put it on everything.

Lou

I use 303 on vinyl and an assortment of waxes. Meguiar's Flagship Premium wax I'll be trying in the coming weeks as I read that article as well. I've used everything from Zymol to Ice.

I use soap and water but on the scuffs and heavy dirt spots I use the magic eraser. The thing works wonders on just about any scuff or mark. I like RainX soap on the outside and use zymbol wax.
