Bent Crankshaft? How should I fix this?

So, I bought a couple Seadoos, one runs great and the other one presumably has a bent crank shaft according to the seller. It's a 2000 Seadoo 720 which I paid about $600 after breaking down the package deal. The seller said his mechanic wanted about $700 for replacing the crank shaft which included labor. Well, I have a few people that can work on it for much cheaper. But, they've all given their two cents.

So, my question is: Who has done this before? Can I replace just the crank shaft for about $250 for a new one (I think)? One person says I should just replace the whole engine with this engine that has a three year, unlimited warranty for $1500, but I really don't care enough to spend that much money. What's wrong with just replacing the crankshaft? Is that do-able? Anybody have any previous experience?

Any (experienced) thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks! :bigear:

You could replace the crank as a project and save some money, if you do the work yourself. Check out the engine first to be sure that the crank is the only problem. The crank is expensive, but if the rest of the engine is junk, why bother re-building...just get a remanufactured engine and save a lot of time and money.

more help please

So, first? What would I be looking for to see if it's only the crank shaft?

Secondly, if I were to just replace the whole engine, where abouts would I find a remanufactured and about how much do you think that would cost?

THANKS!!!!

or, pull the plugs and remove the grey shield, then stick 2 screwdrivers(long ones) in plug holes, then proceed to turn PTO.. if at anytime, the screwdrivers come up together, even fraction of inch, then you have bent crank...

This information is already known, by assumption... but to find out what is really bad you need to pull the engine apart...

I would make sure that the problem is in the engine before I took the engine apart. Some times you can get bad info from old owners. may be drive shaft or somthing, or the owner may be right. I would judge for myself.

Thanks!

Thanks for all of the info everybody! You can actually presume that I know nothing, because that's essentially it.

Anywho, the engine is actually already in pieces. I haven't taken much more than a glance, but I'll check all of it tomorrow with your suggestions. Thank you so much and I'll let you know what I find out and if you could possibly provide anymore much needed (and appreciated) info for me.

THANKS!!!!
