Beaching or anchoring my new 150?

Hi all.

In September I bought a new 150. I read a post that said to never pull the boat up on the beach. I understand about scraping the hull, and to make sure you don't get any sand/rocks into the jet when pushing off the beach, but the post also mentioned that the wave motion will cause damage to the reverse gates. I have a couple of questions:

  • Do people beach their boats, and have you had any problems?
  • Do people recommend to anchor, and if so, what type of anchor do you use?

I'm in Alberta, so am boating in lakes.

Thanks for the help.

I recommend anchoring. Your new boat will look new much longer, and your wear ring will thank you for it. I always try to anchor in about two to three feet of water, which is usually fairly close to shore. Just set the anchor away from shore and adjust the length of the rope so that it keeps you off the bottom. As for anchor type, I've had good luck with the danforth style. Also remember that the proper ratio of rope to depth (scope to rode) is five to one for the best anchor performance. This means in five feet of water you need a minimum of twenty five feet of rope out and in twenty feet you need one hundred feet and more is usually better.

I anchor all my water toys.....

With the amount of money we spend on these things, why take the chance..

What those guys said......

In addition, its best to have a second anchor for the stern so wind or tide doesnt swing your boat into another.
