Battery polarity

Hi All .. I think I have made a colossal blunder.... I was in the process of changing out the twin batteries for a real marine battery and in my haste without my glasses and in the bright sunlight I reversed to polarity of the battery terminals and then made the additional mistake of turning on the ignition.

On other sites the general consensus is that I have fried the electronic thingy in the grey box on the firewall...

No beeps clicks or noises of any kind.. The blower works and the bilge pump also works.. no readings on gauges at all and the motors will not turn over.... any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.... Oh the pain of it all........ I should know better.....

This all in aid of completing a compression test and discovered the batteries had seen better days..

Well the MPEM module is fused, no guarantee it's not been fried but you'll want to open up the box and check that first(15 amp I believe).

Turns out I am the luckiest SOB this summer..I discovered the only thing I did was blow 2 5 amp fuses.... Once they were replaced I completed my compression test and one engine was up to 175 # and the other was 110# on both cylinders... I have dismantled that engine and it is clear the pistons want to be replaced and the water jackets were pretty limed up and one hose outlet on the cylinder head was plugged possibly contributing to the burned piston skirt. No problem for an adventurous sort like me....
