Bailers flowing backwards

Hi, I have a 97 spx and 98 gtx ltd. They both still have the nozzles in the jet pump sticking out and the tubes are tied up under the seat yet water is flowing backwards and filling the hull on the 97 within 10 minutes. Any ideas on what may be happening? Thanks

I had this same issue last week. Water only came in while riding. My problem was that the 2 o-rings between the venturi and pump worked their way out of position. In my case the venturi was not tightened enough to the pump (need to fire my mechanic! i.e. oldest son) and the orings were pushed out and were mostly on the outside of the housing, but still held in place. Took it apart, got the o-rings in place, and everything was fine. I left the water in the hull to be sure the bailers were working and after a short ride, all the water had been pulled out.

Fun part was that I did all this on a neighbor's lift because it really was a 10 minute job, but would have been well over an hour if I had to go back to the ramp. Was afraid I would drop a bolt/nut/washer/oring the whole time.

There's 2 white plastic tubes that hang down in the nozzle of the pump. Water flowing past creates a draw. If the tubes fall out... you get pressure on those hoses.

I'm betting one, or both have fallen out.

Part number 18.

I was thinking the same however I believe these are the tubes you're talking about? both pumps have them intact

are you sure the water is coming from the bailers? lots of places to leak water into the boat other than the bailer system.could be the carbon seal, exhaust welch plug, exhaust flange etc.

Well....

If they are in.. and the tubes are tied up high inside the hull... then the O-rings are cracked. Pull the white tubes and check.

Otherwise... the water is coming from somewhere else.

It's definitely from the bailer tubes. I clamped them off and it fixed the problem 90%. Do you mean the O-rings on the inside of the hull or in the jet pump? Also on the spx it fills quickly but the gtx it either doesn't work or is very slowly pushing water in. SPX can last for about 10 minutes before the hull has too much water in it and the GTX has a gallon or two after an hour

Yes. post #3 I agree.
More likely your Carbone Ring is leaking as THAT will quickly fill the hull, unless your drain plugs were out.

I thought it was the carbon ring too until I replaced it and tried clamping the bailer tubes which solved the problem 90%
