I just got done rebuilding the carbs on my 96 xp a couple days ago and take it to the lake yesterday to just test it out for about an hour and all went very well. The engine shudder I had before was gone and it ran very strong. So I go back today for a whole afternoone of riding. I get it off the trailer and am riding my gf over to the beach area to put our stuff up and I notice that it is doing the "shudder" thing again. Basically it will take off like normal up to about 15 mph and the engine will begin to shudder and it won't go any faster. We get it over to the beach and I drop her off and take it out and it is still doing it but after a few minutes it is back to normal???? I ride it for about 15 min and take it in for her to ride. She is gone about 25 min and says it ran great no problems. The ski sits for about 30 min and I go to get on it and it will take off strong come on plane and start to shudder about 15 mph. So we go back and I load the ski up and once it is out of the water I start it like normal to clear the water. Next thing I know is the ski starts to rev higher and higher and I cannot turn it off. I am guessing this went on for about 30 seconds before it finally wound down. Pulled the plugs one looks gray and the other was alot darker.

When i rebuilt the carbs I used the kit from seadoosource so it was a complete kit. I also replaced all of the fuel/vent line and cleaned all of the one way valves. Any ideas on both of my problems?????

It will over rev if it is hot and you run it with out any cooling. It will react like a glow plug in a radio control car. Is it possiable th$e shudder is from seaweed or a stick in the impeller? Change the plugs and give it another ride and see what happens.

Karl,

I didn't think about the idling thing because we had to idle from the beach area to the ramp maybe an 1/8 mile total. Do you think it could be a crank seal that is causing the lean condition. I have not heard if that is a common problem on these motors. I still am unsure what to think of the engine shudder because it doesn't do it all the time. The ski had fresh plugs. I also checked under the ride plate for any obstructions. Is there anything I can check that gets plugged in the exhaust. I assume it is working because the water shoots out the back. The only other thing that seems reasonable would be a ignition problem?????

qoute...Next thing I know is the ski starts to rev higher and higher and I cannot turn it off...
Sounds like pull'n air somewhere...replce the o-ring around fuel bowl, check the selector valve/clean it, and believe "scoop" had issue where, you hav'ta tighten carb bolts to manifold down, 1/4 turn atta time, something about carb lifted up off plate...
