At wits end. Help with a 2000 challenger 2000 hot start problem

I bought a 2000 challenger 2000 with the 240 EFI motor over the winter knowing there were engine issues so I bought it right. I thought the high pressure pump was the issue, but ended up having the power head rebuilt. I got it back and started running the first tank of gas through it with premix and the injection system to be sure everything broke in well before beating it up. The re-builder put the whole thing together and bench ran it to time it out so it was a drop it in and go concept. I had some fuel issues with the sender not working, so I pulled it and cleaned out the tank, replaced all of the fuel filters (in line before the lift pump and the fuel water separator), put new plugs in with the proper gap before running the new motor. It starts right off, but smokes quite a bit (understandable with double the oil going through it) and runs rough at idle speeds. It ran smoothly at high speed and at 52 mph for short bursts (varying the throttle for break in).
The problem is that when I start it and run it for 10 or 15 minutes and then shut it down for any reason, it won’t start back up. I sounds as if it wants to, but won’t catch. If I leave it for a few hours, it will start right back up immediately.
So far I have replaced:
Plugs (5 times)
All fuel filters
All three temp sensors (head, coolant and air)
Looking at the service manual section 2A, the symptoms are now pointing to the TPS, which is a $550 part. I was hoping to get some opinions or help with finding a way to test the TPS without throwing more money at it.
One funny thing last night. I finally got the starboard side temp sensor and replaced the sensor and the plugs, but instead of champion plugs, I had to use the NGK equivalent. The top end speed was down 5mph and it was not as responsive on acceleration. Serial number is OE384691, so I believe it is the first series of the motor. Thanks in advance
Mike

Yes... it's a fist gen 240 engine.

BUT.... when you go to re-start it... do you run the bilge fan? I know it sounds simple, but the Merc engines are VERY sensitive to bilge fumes. My islandia will do the same thing. Shut it off... go for a swim... and won't restart. BUT... if I simply run the fan for a couple minutes while I'm pulling up the anchor... it will start/run fine every time.

Yes, sorry I did not mention that. I had read several posts from you that mentioned that. I tried that on several occasions. Thanks for all the help you provide by the way. I've read all of the posts I could find including the sticky at the top of this forum.

So, can someone check me on this? I pull the connector for the TPS, and measure from the center to both outer wires and should get 0.2 at idle and 7.4 at WOT with a smooth curve in between. I also should disconnect the port temper sensor when I move the throttle. Engine off.
Thanks,
Mike

Fixed it. It was the TPS! It seems to be an issue with these motors. They were backordered for a week and a half.
Thanks for the input,
Mike
