My Fiancée owns a 2003 Mustang GT Convertible V8 with a 5 speed

No rust, minor to no digs. Has some chipped paint.

Looking for what I should expect to pay for a QUALITY front to back paint job.

Forest Green if it matters.

Want to do it as a gift for her.
LouDoo. I know you work at a dealership. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I think that is a pretty wide window to ask. I just texted a buddy who works for a local Ford dealer body shop. He said about $3,000+/- for base clear. Drop off pick up you don't lift a finger. I'll say if you want a top notch job do a little leg work. We had our last car that was in an accident fixed at the dealer and while it was decent, it was a typical production job. They left the hood jamb dry and inner fender, overspray on the strut and control arm etc... I hammered them on it and they made good on the dry jamb and fender. The material is expensive. My show car I got painted for $5000, I did all the sheetmetal work, I helped block sand the entire car etc..., so I saved about $8-$9K on that job by helping other guys would have been close to $14K without helping. It pays that I know the guy and he does 3-4 resto paint jobs a year from his booth at home. That's the kind of guy to find, but you lose the car for 3 months, the under side of my fenders are buffed just like the top.

Watch out for this guy, send your car in with the trim unmasked and you'll get back a monotone car. Chrome trim, key locks, door handles, yep we'll paint em' shut, no extra charge.

As mentioned, it's a bit of a wide range. I would think the average now is $2500-3000. I would stay away from those Fact-O-Bake type places as the paint will start coming off in about a year's time. Shop around, get prices, and find out their process (how many layers of paint, clearcoat, etc.)

I get that it is a wide based question.

Just getting my feelers out there a bit.

I want panels, mirrors, moldings ect ect removed. So 5 grand us likely a decent price based on your inputs.

Car is in very good condition. Just some faded paint and one spot where bird poop sat and she didn't catch it.

i was quoted a "friend" discount from a quality shop for my lexus es300. $3500 for the right job.
so i'd say 3K to 4K, since a convertible should be easier.

I was quoted $2000 (friend of a friend price I was told) on a 95 mustang hardtop for minor body work (no rust repair) and complete color change.

On a convertible if probably guess anywhere from $2000-$3000 depending on how much body work is involved if you don't have "a friend".

Had my RX7 painted by a very reputable local shop and it ran $4,800.

Here is a picasa page that the body shop did updates on so I could watch the progress. You can see all that went into the paint job.

They took off the front and rear plastic bumpers and media blasted them (walnut shells IIRC) down to the plastic then painted them back up.

I did not want the vented hood on it (that was for Track Days only) and the hood I had on there had seen better days, so I bought a Carbon Fiber one, tried to like it, hated it and ended up getting it painted the same as the car.

It all depends on what you want and how long you plan on keeping the car, 2-3 more years, get Maaco, base coat clear coat, it will last 5 years.

If you plan on keeping the car a long time, then spend a little and get a good paintjob that will hold up for 15+ years.

She will keep the car forever if at all possible.

And it would be a major tear down just so irbid done right. Minimal body work.

Covetable top off, all interior panels, ect ect.

Thank you for the replies.
