I don't own a Seadoo (yet). Tomorrow I am going to go look at and possibly buy a 1995 Seadoo GTX. I have a few questions. My first main concern is that I'm a pretty big guy, so I need to know what the weight capacity plate says on it for the maximum. I ride my friends Tiger Shark a lot, but it turns in to a low rider and is unstable when I try to idle out to the lake. Once I get over 20 mph on it, I'm just fine.

The Tiger Shark he has is considered a 2 seater and from what I understand the GTX is a 3 seater and is 9 inches longer and a few inches wider.

My 3 questions (for now) are:

Will the GTX 3 seater be more stable with a lard butt on it than a 2 seater Tiger Shark at low speeds?

Are there any common problems with this model? In other words; should I pay any particular attention to any thing specific when I go to look at it tomorrow? I'm a pretty mechanically inclined person, so I know all the basic things to check and what's what and what things should look like. :)

Does $2000.00 seem out of line for a '95 GTX? From the pictures, it looks really nice and of course I will talk him down.

does it come w/ trailer?,if so, then, she runs good, not bad....have lard butt friend, 6'6"-300+, and he ripped around on my 98GTS, no prob...

Yes with trailer.

I was able to find an owners manual on line for a 1996. Are they the same hull? According to that the max weight is 507 lbs. I'm no where near that, LOL. Should it be the same for a '95? I will continue Googling to find a 1995 manual. I also found a complete 1995 repair manual for it online already. :)

1995?.........

2K for a 13 year old, under powered ski?.......sounds a bit much.

The Tiger shark you rode was probably a TS 650. If your looking at the GTX, your engine rating is probalby not going to change, since is't equipped with the 657cc. But with the extra weight in the hull, your probably going to notice a difference in top end speed. In other words, it's gonna float better, but not have the performance that the Tiger Shark has...............

In New England, I have seen many 1995 GTX's for sale at around $1500.00 including trailer. I have owned one since 2000 and besides basic maintenance, it has been very dependable. I have carried 3 adults on it easily without tipping, or a huge loss of power. I have replaced the wear ring and pump bearings/seals, as well as replaced the old grey fuel lines and cleaned the carb filters. The ethanol in the gas dissolves the inside of these lines and deposits the junk in the carb filters, resulting in engine surging. Once I replaced these with automotive type black fuel lines, it ran like new. Here is an excellent thread by JPX on how to do this http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=4809
These are a couple of things that you might run into, should you buy it.

I also own a 2001 GTX which has the next generation hull. The newer hull provides a smoother ride because it has more of a V-shape. The '95 bottom is more smooth and flat, but is awsome for donuts and spin-outs!

Good luck and let us know how you made out.

I decided to go at least look at it anyways. I ended up buying it. I got him to knock $600.00 off the asking price!!! I acted like I was going to leave and he dropped the price.

It's got a new starter, a new battery, a new oil tank and lines, a fresh tune up, new filters, and some other misc new parts. It fires right up and runs perfect.

I saw the gray lines on it as mentioned above, but I'll fix that in a hurry.

Thanks for the help and info guys. I'm sure I'll be back with some questions after I ride it for a while.

Good deal! You'll have a lot of fun on it without a lot of expense. That is a simple ski to work on and maintain. Also, it has plenty of room to work in the engine compartment. I've attached a picture of mine for you to see. I have put a new purple seat cover and handlebar cover on it as the old ones were starting to look worn. My wife and I have 3 kids so we take both Sea Doo's out for long rides.

Let me know how it rides! Good Luck

Dave

Here she is. This picture is before I took her home and gave her a bath. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and a few hours of work and she looks almost brand new now. My seat is beat up looking too. I found the kits to recover and I will do that this winter. I only got to take her out for a 10 minute ride yesterday. The weather was real bad here and it looked like it was about to thunderstorm. She ran absolutely perfect!!! Not a glitch, not a sputter, perfect throttle response and everything worked as promised. It's not as fast as my buddy's Tiger Shark, but it rides like a Cadillac compared to his. Kind of like comparing a Honda Gold Wing to a CBR900R. Having reverse and neutral is awesome too. I am taking it out today after work for a nice long ride.
