Anyone have discomfort in hand(s) after riding?

Sooo.. Just wondering on this, I've been having some discomfort with my right hand - actually it started around 1/2 summer

There's a pretty direct correlation to riding the ski and the issue getting worse.. And it's only my 'throttle hand'
After my 6 days on the lake vacation, going through more than 3 tanks of gas on the seadoo.. I noticed I had some discomfort making a fist, or gripping things to open them (like soda bottles, relish jars, etc) Normal tasks like typing, pointing, etc nothing hurt.. literally JUST when trying to make a fist or gripping and twisting to open something.. It wasn't bad, just not comfortable

I had a solid 3 week break from the jet skis after my last 3 day weekend up at the lake.. I went out on Saturday with zero discomfort anywhere, halfway through the day I noticed my right hand wasn't comfortable anymore.. and any time I gripped hard to hold on it didn't feel good.. The past 4 days since have been uncomfortable/painful to the point where I tell myself "this isn't right" anytime I've had to 'clench' or 'twist' anything (IE make a fist, or unscrew a lid)

Has anyone run into this at all? Did I maybe strain something that needs more time to heal than 3 weeks? (IE sprained ankle style..)

Sounds like you have a death grip on the fingers, of your throttle hand. Normally, I hear about it on the motorcycle boards. Skis with a trigger throttle don't seem to be as bad.

I used to get it some when I first got my yfz450 atv but I got used to it, maybe the cable is little stiff and after so long it hurts??

Usually after a long ride especially in heavy chop where I'm working the throttle a lot I do get a little sore but nothing bad. I would like to switch to a index throttle but I can't seem to find a decent kit that doesn't look all hacked up.

My GTX is fly by wire. The throttle is super easy on the hands. When I ride it I use on a finger on it and 4 fingers and my thumb on the handle bar.

My RTX is so aggressive that I had to train myself to operate it the same as my GTX. No I use on a finger on the throttle.

I start with pointing finger, if it gets tired I simply switch to the middle finger and bring the pointing finger to the handle bars.

You might want to try a larger grip, I use an ODI Rouge grip.

Both my skis have the throttle on top,,, This make sense as to why my hand would not get tired. I am able to use my thumb to hold my grip and just a finger on the throttle.. Seems like a safer option as well...

Unless you get scared and squeeze the crap out of things and go even faster.. LOL

The only issue I have is my thumb will start to tingle a bit. I can usually reposition my hand and it goes away. I wouldn't mind switching the throttle from thumb to finger. Is there a kit out there to do that?

Thumb throttles are uncomfortable, I know people who sold their skis and stopped riding b/c of the discomfort.

If I owned a ski, I'd probably rig a motorcycle style throttle.

I'm with Lou. I put Schwinn bike grips on my HX cause I was in a hurry (and ordered the wrong color OEM grips) . I know the first trip out my hands were killing me for days--no white knuckling either. They are barely bigger than the 7/8" bar they're on. The standard OEM grips are better tailored to my big hands. I have gotten use to the smaller grips but have an OEM set in the wings ready yo go on this winter.

Are you sure it wasn't because their skirt kept blowing up in their face? That's just crazy to sell a toy because of a throttle.

That's a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion

Are ODI grips the positive locking style (IE, not just 'glue' on?)

And yeah it's got to be because of my 'death grip' while my thumb is free to work the throttle, especially when going for a jump or top speed in choppy water

I did some searching and see that Dennis Kirk sells two versions that will convert from thumb to finger throttle...

I LOVE mine,,, If I bought a new ski and it had the thumb throttle I would make the change...

Do you have a link? All I've found is some junky hacked up looking kits I'd never use.

If you google SEADOO THUMB THROTTLE CONVERSION FINGER you will get a few good links.

Here is one from Riva. It is the PDF instructions on how to do it.
I want to limit posting links that take away from this site.

Also, it has been discussed here on a few times. Google with the words SEADOO FORUM THUMB FINGER CONVERSION and it should come up.

i've been using finger Throttles forever, so i'm in full support of a conversion.

larger grips, yes, ODI rogues are one of my fav's

i still catch myself using the "death grip" now and then, even when just cruising along and force myself to relax when I notice it. I also tend to swap fingers from index to middle, to both, it does help a little.

Winter is coming soon enough, your wrist will get a break shortly :(

consider maybe taking a couple of advil before riding and hydrate up, lots of water, might help, I do that if i'm riding back to back days because if discomfort in the lower back, and right knee, seems to alleviate it somewhat.

Thanks Spim.. I've already ordered a set of ODI's for my limited (I have issues haha)

I haven't tried the advil deal, but I usually go through 3-4 liters of water.. I wonder if that's enough when it's 102 degrees..

And yeah, winter is coming :( Last year I didn't go out from the second week of December through the first week of May..

The game of squash that is played in a 4 walled court, has a smaller sized rubber ball than raquet ball.It has a ball the is so good to squeeze. The old 2 handled spring type things. Are good..I use them everyday.Just a few times.Slowly
.they work.
