I am downloading it now.

Just wondering if it is worth the $13.50. Taking a long time to download.

Looking for a gps mapping system to help me stay in the channels in our lake.

Never knew such things existed. Looks cool on the website. Do you know if similar smartphone GPS software exists for MPH, distance, and other such stuff?

Did you get your HT yet?

Well, dont mean to sound dumb, but what is HT?

So far i have apps on my droid phone to have it act as phone, mp3 player, gps speedometer, xm/sirius satellite radio, and now gps with lake charts.

So far, so good!

It seems like i can track trails, be warned when i get too shallow (and adjust how shallow is too shallow) and i can see myself in a little blue triangle going wherever i am on gps. I assume speed shows up but dont know yet. Havent used it on the water yet.

Most important...it shows where i am in relation to the deepest parts of the lake so i can stay in the channel and minimize my chance of hitting logs and stumps.

Let me know how it works. I am curious. HT would be your hydro turf you were discussing.

No on Hydroturf. Sorry, I didn't get that. I was thinking electronics, not carpet.

Ordered a couple of sample swatches to see what matches closest and haven't gotten them yet. Finally ordered those on Friday, so looking like a winter project.

The map of our lake comes up really nice and clear, and since we live close to the lake, I can see my little triangle where we live over on the shore, so I am sure the maps will work for us to keep us on the channels.

I messed with settings to change meters to feet (with option of fathoms), and km/h to miles (with option of nautical miles), and a couple other settings, so I am sure it will list my current speed and depth. Also has an alarm (apparently) that goes off when I get less than 6 feet deep, but will have to verify that when it goes off. Also has the abilty to record trails, so I am sure it will do all I need it to and then some.

Only $13.50, and doesn't need internet connection to work. It takes a while to download, but it is fully loaded onto my phone. And has all the major lakes in the southern quarter of the US.

I will give it a try on the water on friday. Taking half a day off to take my dad out on the boat.

Update!

Turned it on while driving to work on the road that goes right along the edge of the lake and it does shows gps speed in the bottom corner in .1 increments. I could zoom out a click and see the water and it also shows some of the roads, but i wouldnt use this to replace my street navigation app.

So all-in-all it seems to work great and well worth the $13.50!

Much better than the $99 Magellan was trying to charge me to add lake maps to my Triton handheld gps unit, and actually much more user-friendly!

Hi guys. Yes I use navionics Australasia. It's an excellent iPhone application. First I wouldrecommend you buy a good quality water proof case for your iPhone before taking it on the water.
Thisis a gps app that can be used to track your trips. It's also good for getting tide information. Click this link to see me trip of yesterday.
Please message me with any questions and I will be happy to help.

You will need to have google earth installed on your phone or computer to view above link. Cheers

I am currently using it to track my "attempts" at finding the channel to get out of our lake and up into the river so we can eat at riverside restaurants.

I used it all last season and was very happy with the program. Only problem I see is the screen of the iphone washing out in the sun, can't beat the price though.
