I have 2003 islandia, 240 merc. I had the engine winterized last fall, then the first trip out this year the drive housing was leaking all over the place into the engine compartment. Filled the compartment almost half way before we could trailer it out.
I brought it to the same marina that winterized it. Cost me $2,400.00 to replace. He said the mounts were loose and that the vibration cause the cracking. I asked him if was possible that the engine was not winterized properly and he said that was impossible as this is a self draining part. Is this true? Or is he just trying to cover his a**?
Just doesn't make sense to me.
Thanks for looking.

merc engines are self draining. but... what "mounts" is he talking about? and what, exactly got replaced for $2400?

The reciept says drive housing ($880.00) plus a lot of misc. items. He had to pull the engine to replace this. It appears that this part was in the lower rear section.
Thanks.
