Another wear ring ...why?

My 2001 GS had a bad wear ring when I bought it so I replaced it then drove it for about an hour and the new wear ring failed so then I replaced it again thinking maybe it sucked up a rock. This weekend I drove it for maybe half an hour and the wear ring failed again. I dont know why its failing, I checked the prop and it looks good and the pump bearings seem ok. Should I rebuild the pump with new bearings even though everything seems ok or is there somewhere else that should be checked. When I replaced the old wear ring it just pushed out without having to chisel it and the new one pushed back into place by hand, there wasnt any pounding with a hammer.

From what you are saying I would guess that you are using either aftermarket wear rings, or the wrong size. There is not way they should be that loose.

The first wear ring was off ebay and the last one was from the dealer. I agree maybe my housing for the pump is cracked somewhere , but it looks ok however, there could be a hair line crack.
