Ok. So. I have read through several other posts in regards to similar issues. In fact, I’ve read several to get where I am. For starters, the machine is a 96 XP. It had sat for a season and wouldn’t start. I changed out the battery and the starter solenoid. I went to start it and it did so nicely. However, it would only run for 5 to 10 seconds. Checked things over, found the 7.5 amp fuse blown. I replaced it after checking connects. Again it stared and ran for about the same amount of time as previously. Again the fuse was blown. After doing some research, I removed the cover to the VTS. And, yes, there was water in it and the motor looked terrible. I thought for sure that this was it. I found a used VTS unit and motor and installed it. This ended up not fixing the problem. Still popping the VTS fuse. As a note, all power is lost when this happens. Any how, I looked over things a bit more and couldn’t find an issue. I was told to change out the rectifier/voltage regulator. It wasn’t too expensive so I did. I completely removed the VTS from the equation this time to see if it is part of the issue. Of course, it still blew the fuse. What else should I look at? What’s upstream from the fuse? I don’t have a schematic. And I think my patience is wearing thin. I did try a 10 amp fuse for chits and giggles….. I know, it’s a no-no. However, it stays running. I’m starting to think it maybe the MPEM. But, at what point does a person just stop sticking money into this?
