I ran a search but didn't come back with much. What type of achor are y'all using?

I bought a grapnel style 6.5lb anchor but it didn't seem to do a very good job at all. In windy conditions it did nothing and in pretty calm conditions it still didn't do much. I know I didn't have as much line out as I should have but its hard to let that great of an angle of line out when bunched up around other boats.

I really don't want to get a fluke type because its just so big and bulky. Was looking at the mushroom and river type anchors as well. Maybe on of them will work better.

Anybody with good experiance in lake type conditions?

Mushroom anchor aren't so good either.....unless you got a big one which is too unwieldy in a PWC.

mushroom sounds good with a rubber coating to protect your boat from friends that do not care about your boat as much as you do. there are beter anchors out ther but I do not anchor that much so I do not mind if it has a good bite or not. To be honest I think I may have the good grabing type in my boat but I have extra anchors so I will probly change it to the mushroom.

I just bought the mushroom black plastic coated type from walmart. It was about $21.00. I held my boat in place just fine on 4th of july. Buy the biggest mushroom type you can find at walmart. I think its 15 pounds.

Mushroom anchor...

I've used the mushroom anchor for several years now. It holds well on short line in a silty river or with more line, in a bay or coastal area with 1 ft chop .....

my anchor i think is a number 9. its kinda overkill but on somedays i still have a hard time with it. it all depends on your rope legth (angle) and wind or current

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I'm going to go for the rubberized mushroom. I was thinking I'd try walmart, good to know they have it!

Truth is I don't really need it for cray windy days, just want something to hold the boat relatively well when we want to jump over and get wet/lounge around.

Again thanks!

Watch Out

Those big heavy mushroom anchors can do a lot of damage inside your storage compartment when the hull is slapping waves. I used to have one and started noticing abrasions even with it inside a cloth bag so I went back to a folding tine type anchor... which I dont like because they do too good a job, Ive had to cut a few of them loose cause they get hung up on branches etc. The secret to anchoring is rope length - the more the better.

Hmm, good to know. Thanks for the info. I may try to wrap the anchor in something padded so it can't bounce around. I see what your saying though. The boat takes a helluva beating up there. May have to ponder the whole anchor issue some more.

I think I am going to try the Greenfield slip ring fluke style anchor. Its dims are a little smaller than the traditional one and I think it might be able to fit under one of the front seats.

I found it at Acadomy for $20. I'll buy it and do a test fit. Worse case I can am almost certain it will fit in the lower ski hold. If it doesn't fit in either spot I can return.

I really like the fact that they are vinyl rubberized covered.

My boat came (used) with that same anchor Rexsteiner is talking about. It is fairly light, so it doesn't bounce around too much under the floor where it is stored. I have only used it once, mild wake from other boats, in a river, in shallow water and light wind. It worked just fine for us.

The $21.00 mushroom anchor from walmart fits perfect under the front seat of my challenger. Its the best spot to store because under that seat pad is black carpet, so i dont worry about the rubberized anchor scratching anything. It fits with 100ft anchor rope too.

All these anchors work just fine ...but I prefer to use Bud Light 6 packs to hold my boat... geese this thread is getting weighed down now...and sinking fast...

What kinda of bottom are you anchoring to cause that will determin what kind of anchor you will need, mud, clay, rock, coral, sand, areas with lot of weeds? I anchor in sand and use a danforth on the front and a smaller one on the back, some other tips also use a nylon rope cause it will stretch so the boat dosent pull at the anchor in coppy water. and use about 5ft of rope for every 1ft of water pluse the distance from the water to the boats deck.

Oh i also have to anchor near other boat only a couple feet apart and i use two anchors but im always in about 4feet of water when i do so i put the front one in and back up till its hooked then get out and put the back one in.

Hooker Anchor

The common misconception with anchors is that the heavier the better, which is not alway true. It depends on the anchor design and the type of bottom you are anchoring to. I use the 'hooker' type that REXSTEINER suggested in this thread. (Bass Pro) It holds a 1500lbs Sportster quite well in choppy water in a sand bottom lake.

lets fix this post, what kind of river bottom do you boat in... there are about 5 different types...

where im at its mostly muddy and lot of grass. not sure what else, I dont really jump in it much so I dont know. I need to get a anchor so we can chill for a bit. But I will probably just tie to the bigger boat for now as that one has a big anchor. just waiting for my bumpers to arrive.
