Am I in big trouble here

I have two Problems With my 99' GTI. I have a starting issue. after posting about it on another page I think it is a loose wire between battery and starter. but here is issue number two. I have some gray sludge comming out of the top of what I think is my fuel injection system. I took a video of my two issues and put it on youtube so you can view them. Yeah, I'd say you have some major issues. I've never seen an oily sludge build up in your "flame arrestor" before...........
 
The color gray has me baffled, but it looks like phase seperation of E-10 gas and water. It has the same consistency.

Did you remove the flame arrestor to look at the carbs? I doubt it is "bubbling" up from the carbs. Could just be condensation or water leaking in from the water proof air box.

that looks like water and something on your flame arrester, If all your batt connections are snug and making good connection you may have water in your engine internals that may be the reason its not turning over.....I would take the spark plugs out and take a look in there maybe put some lubricant in there and then try and turn engine over without the plugs, im no expert but wouldnt hurt to try.

What you are seeing is what happens when oil and water mix. I got money that says your engine is totally full of water for some reason and that's why it also won't crank. Pull out your spark plugs, key up the ski, stand back from the ski and just "bump" the start button. If there is water in the engine it will come flying out the spark plug holes with a vengance.

you know I thought this as well. all my connetions are tight. to the starter. I tried starting it earler that day and turned over just fine but then all the sudden this happened. I will remove the plugs as see what happens. I will also report back. If this is the case will removing the plugs and cranking away solve my problem or am I looking at major repair? I am some what mechanicaly inclined but if it involves crackalacin the engine I am gonna have to take it to my local jet ski mechanic who is expinsive as hell. charged me $ 120.00 to put a battery in two years ago. my fault because I was too lazy to do it. leson learned.......
 
If that engine is full of water, TIME is of the essence. The longer it sits the worsen it gets and the more it will cost to repair.

Well here is a good example of what kind of genius you guys are dealing with. I removed both spark plugs and first thing I saw was the grey goop on the plugs. I pushed the start button and the engine cranked just fine the goop shot out of the holes but here is the good part. I did this act in my basement. It is now all over my ceiling and my wife is pissed. I have been informed that there will be no loving for me for a while so I need to get this ski fixed so I can at least enjoy something. a little history on the ski is I bought it new always in fresh water ( upper Chesapeake Bay ) less than 60 hours on it every time I'm done with it I Fushed It out. but I never have winterized it because always stored in basement wich is temp controlled. I did not ride it at all last year so It has been sitting about 20 months without being started. you think I should just cank away ( outside ) and put new plugs in it and try it? It ran just fine when I rode it last.

Kyle, get some Marvel Mystery oil and put a couple Oz's in each cylinder. Let it soak over night. In the morning Put a cloth over the plug holes and turn it over. Be sure to put the plug caps on the grounding posts to prevent more problems. Hopefully all the crap will come out of the engine. Be sure you have fresh fuel and new clean plugs and fire it up. It should start...not in the basement, it's gonna smoke real bad. I'm sure you'll be cut off for 2 months if you smoke out the house.Let us know how you make out.

If this is a 2 cycle witch I believe it is you may need to remove the intake and turn engine over so rotory valve will be open on one cylinder at a time and suck up oil water mix with rags or paper towles from each halfs of crankcase to get enough out so it will even begin to want to start. Good luck on how long engine will last. but I can allways be wrong. Robin :)
 
well did the marvel oil thing tried to turn it over and it did a couple of times without the plugs and then it stopped again. I am assuming the engine has to be pulled and taken apart. Is there any more sugestions? I think the engine is fine because it never ran with this stuff in it.
 
It sound like it has or had water in the engine. If you didn't get the gunk out and it is full of water it will most likely seize up. All that gunk is working on the on the crank bearings, while it is sitting there. The longer it sets there the more damage is taking place. It's been 10 days since you first posted and if it has had that water gunk in it I'm sure you 'll have to tear it down and get a better look.
 
pull the head. pull the exhaust. look for where the water got in. my first suspect is the exhaust manifold or the pipe. there is a drain at the bottom of the manifold so exhaust water runs out after shutting off. if it plugged up, this could happen. this motor is probably done. even if you find prob and fix it and she starts up fine. the crank is probably gonna die in the near future. if you get it going, get it in the water and run it for a LONG time. don't go far. chesapeake is still too cold to swim back. tie it to the dock and let it idle. (my spousal unit gets mad when i put them in the swimming pool out back.) the longer you run it, the more you dry out the moisture you got in your main and rod bearings. if that glop was on top of the pistons, it was under em too. the crankcase is essentially the intake manifold on a 2-stroke.
 
:agree: At this point start pulling it apart to get it cleaned or spend lots for an engine real soon!
 
gunk engine degreaser will probably take the goop off the ceiling. at least it wasn't in the living room.
