Air Compressor exploded

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and new to the boating world. I just picked up a 2002 Utopia 185 to take the family out on the lakes. I got a good deal on it because the guy thought the motor was shot, but when I got it home and investigated, I found that the air compressor was destroyed (two big holes).
Anyway, I’m not super strong mechanically, but I enjoy tinkering and repair my vehicles most of the time, so I’m not useless either. Getting to the point, can someone share some insights on some pitfalls I should be on the lookout for? Should I replace the rails and injectors too? Or would a big clean be a reasonable alternative? Lastly, I suspect I can get the compressions out with the motor in the boat, will that be the case for the whole job?
Anyway, I’ll end there. Thanks for any input you can provide. I’ll post pictures of the damage (it’s pretty spectacular) when the kids give me a moment’s freedom!

Here are some pictures of the air compressor. Also, is something supposed to be under the compressor, I have two bolt holes that look like they have been used in the past, but nothing was there...I’ve included a picture with my thumb and index finger to show what I’m taking about.

Welcome.

OK... yep... that's one blown up pump. LOL.

I would check the air lines, to make sure there is no sign of metal residue. If they are clean... I would just replace the pump, and call it a day. If there is metal in them... then the entire injection system needs to be taken apart, and cleaned.

Thanks for the warm welcome and for the advice. I really appreciate it, as I am not super keen to have the injection system cleaned...that compressor is super expensive already!
Thanks again!

Don't need to prime it. It's an air pump. Bolt it on... and if nothing else is wrong... it should start up.
