Brief History: I bought 1997 challenger 110 HP 14' jet boat new, very few hours on it as of today. Boat always seem to burn so much smoke, starting and running on lake. Last year 2016 had the gaskets replaced but it has not run since because when you give it gas at 1/3 throttle it stalls out. I was going to rebuild the two carbs Mikuni, but taking them apart they were very clean and the small filters were spotless, I will also be checking the pop off pressure befor re-assemblying, Question#1. Do you think just cleaning everything with WD 40 will be OK as opposed to spending $150.00 for two gasket kits? As I'm taking the carbs off I notice a hose from underneathe the boat just lying on the floor filled with sand, hard as a rock, now to get to this on the bottom of the engine I'm in the middle of removing the exhaust manifold and then the tuned pipes & rave valves to replace this tubing so Question #2. When putting everything back on, would using say gasket eliminator on the existing gaskets if they look OK,instead of buying sets of new gaskets work or is this asking for trouble? Question #3.With the tuned pipe off, would it also be wise to pull out the gas baffle inside the gas tank because it has a filter on it,s bottom to clean it? One last thing for now, I pulled the throttle assembly out and the little micro switch moved freely so I sprayed it but I don,t know if it is doing it's job or not, is there a simple way to see if this is my original problem? Sorry for such a long first post, but thank you for being here.
