Adjusting the carb(s)

Can this be done with the carb in place or does it have to be pulled? I see in the shop manual I have to pull the air box, but was told I had to pull the carb to adjust and that sounds insane to me.

I would like to lean the starboard engine out slightly. It is pissed off at idle (stalls a lot) and the plugs + exhaust port all indicate pig rich.

Mid RPM to high RPM it is very happy..... once it clears out. Low speed and idle, fuggetaboutit.

Port engine exhaust after 12 gallons of gas run through.

You don't have to remove the air box to adjust the LSA's, but you will probably need a mirror.

If it were me I would remove the carbs, disassemble and give them a thorough cleaning. Install new genuine Mikuni carb kits including new needles and seats. Set the pop off pressure, as well as, the leak down pressure. Lastly set the LSA's to factory. After getting it to crank I would set the idle to 3000rpms on the trailer shut it off, take the mirror and see where the oil pump is set. The mark on the oil pump and the mark on the oil linkage need to be aligned with each other. Good luck.

I should have included this info in the first post, my apologies.

2 Rebuilt engines about 10 hours old. Rebuilt Carbs, everything adjusted and set up by a Sea Doo shop as you stated above.

We discussed this issue and I tried to bribe him into a water test and adjustment session. Cash, girls in Bikini's Beer you name it!! He said no, bring the boat in and he would adjust it, he said he wanted to turn in the LSA 1/2 a turn and that would probably do the trick.

I told him I was going to do it and he said it was nto that easy, you had to pull the carb and to bring it by the shop. Except he is too busy with the holiday weekend to do it this week. I am leaving on vacation next week and to have this sorted out. Since the boat is coming with me to the Keys.

It is not a horrible problem, I rather it run a little on the rich side, I just thought if I could turn the screw in 1/2 a turn myself it would probably make the engine much happier.

Just pull the air box and breather mount so you can at least see both the carbs, cables and everything else that's in your way that can't be moved it will be much easier and you'll feel better about it when your done. You're going to want to seat them all the way in to get a baseline as to where they are now versus the factory recommended settings, which is right where they should be adjusted to for performance expectations.

Your shop likely does that on every one he repowers to be on the safe side of things for a break in period your first 1/3 comes off that circuit and extended periods of low speed operation during break in might cause him extra warranty work after the fact.
