Adhesive recommendations for vinyl seat cover?

I am going to recover the rear seat of my 01GTXDI. I did recover my front seat last season with a piece of marine vinyl from Joanne fabrics. There were no real sharp dips or valleys in the seat so simply stretching it over and stapling worked out fairly well. The rear seat as many of you know has some sharper contours that I am pretty sure when I stretch the vinyl over it is going to bridge the dips or valleys and not reveal the contour of the seat. The seat cover which I took off was not an original but had some adhesive on it strong enough to hold it down and yet not rip the foam when I pulled it off. I don’t want to spend the money on a pre-fabricated seat cover right now. So question is does anybody have any specific recommendations on a spray on or brush on adhesive that will work for this application ? Thank you for any help I appreciate it.

I had mine recovered a few years back on my old GTI 2003 and it had shaped forms on it too. If I have the chance I will ask the guy who did it for me how he did it. But as far as I am concerned, there was no adhesive involved.

Was it one solid piece of vinyl or a cover that was sewn together on the contours?

No adhesive ever because you will never be able to stretch it tight or remove wrinkles.

The key is 4 way stretch vinyl or one that is cut and sewn. If you buy the cheap 2 way stretch it will never cover nicely.

BINGO!.....4 way stretch vinyl and let it sit in the sun to warm up before you do the recover.

I've done recovers (in the basement) using a heat gun as well to warm/stretch the vinyl.

A pneumatic staple gun with SS staples (fresh water) or MONEL staples (salt water) will make your life easier.
