Hi,

I'm new to these forums and love reading through them. I just purchased a 92 XP that I thought was all original and I just found out that it only has 1 carb on it. Would it be possible for me to purchase a used Twin Carb setup off of ebay and install them without too much hassle? I realize that I will have to order the twin intake manifold as well and the matching flame arrestor setup.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Mark, I'm not to sure that would work. You've got the 587cc engine and the single carb set up.

Why would it not work? That one carb is jetted to feed two cylinders. If you add another carb with the same size jets, then you will probably deliver to much fuel t the motor and drown it out.

There are no RAVE valves on this model to handle the extra fuel and combustion as there is with the 787cc.

IF you try it, I'd use the smallest jets possible. Which, in most models of the twin jet carbs, the pto carb has a smaller main jet than the mag. The pilot jets are normally the same.

they did make twin carb set-ups for 93 XP's anyway. you would need the carbs, intake, and rotary valve cover. then you would need throttle cable and choke cable. then you would need to rebuild the new carbs because they are not new. then you would find out there is almost no diff between single and dual carbs. the cyls take turns getting air-fuel from the carb. twin carbs effectively sit there bored half the time and are feeding their cyl the other half.

Well.........?

Well, though your theory sounds kinda good, that's not entirely correct. The idea of twin carbs is better air to fuel ratio that can't be obtained from a single carb set up.

He would have to change to the larger rotary plate, and he'd have to buy the proper size jets. The main jets in the PTO carb are normally a bit smaller than those in the MAG carbs........but if your theory was true, then why waste all the money in research and development in the Bombardier engineering department, just to add another carb?....if there was no gain in horsepower or performance?
