I mistakenly added about 1.5 quarts to the oil reservoir of my 2004 Islandia. The reservoir was half full of 2 stroke oil. How bad have I screwed up?? Any advice on how to remedy my screw up would be appreciated.

I didn’t realize the Merc powered boats were two stroke. If they are, I would imagine you are in for a full flush of the oil tank and lines. I’ll let someone with more knowledge about the Mercury powered boats step in and give you the scoop though...

If you didn't run it yet.... just remove the tank from the hull (2 caps just unscrew) and dump all of it.

If you did run it... there's a chance that the oil is in the engine tank also. If it was my boat... I would drain all of it, and clean the hoses.

Neither one is an "Easy" solution... but modern engine oils (4-stroke crankcase oil) don't come close to what a 2-stroke needs for protection. Not to mention, it could cause mixing issues. 2-stroke oils have goofy, non-EPA approved additives, and those could interact with the chemicals in the 4-stroke oil. I've personally seen oils turn to pudding, or have chunks of additives fall out of solution. SO... why chance your engine?

Yep... the Seadoo Merc boats were mostly 2.5L V6 2-strokes. the 250hp opti engine was a 3.0L engine.
