Acceleration question

So this offseason I have been thinking of things I can do to make my ski run better next summer and I have always hated that my ski doesn't accelerate like it should. It feels and sounds like it cavitates when i try to go with a lot of throttle off the bat. when i have a passenger i can hardly get the ski moving sometimes i just get really high RPM. I have researched a little bit on it but I dont know what it really is. How hard is the work to fix this problem or should i have a professional do this?

I would guess it either the wear ring/impeller but It could also be a seal problem as well.

Have you ever checked the clearance between the impeller and wear ring?

If it is one of those two problems, fixing it isn't too hard. Do a forum search and you will get lots of hits!

That is definitely an Impeller/Wear Ring problem for sure. You probably need both. I pay to have stuff fixed that I don't know how to fix. I am great with cars/motorcycles but all this marine stuff is confusing to me.

yeah i figured that was the problem after reading a few other posts with similar problems but hopefully i can find some detailed instructions on fixing this. i dont even know where the wear ring is or how to get to it.

The wear ring is around the impeller in the jet pump. You can look in the nozzle at the end of the pump that turns the jet, and look to see if there is a space larger than say a piece of paper thick...or .040" with a guage. if it is a wide gap between the impeller blades and wear ring it needs replacing. You could get a manual from our site and do the repair yourself, for parts in our "Parts" link for about like $50.00 or pay up words of 4-$500.00 dollars at a seadoo service center. Look into becoming a "Premium Member" for a manual and expert advice as you do your own repair over the winter...and save the difference for fuel next year.

Wow Karl that is expensive. I found a seadoo mechanic on craigslist that is doing my work to my boat. It was $180 for the impeller and $50 for the wear ring. He said 2hrs max labor to install. He only charges $70/hr for labor. I am looking at like $450 for new Impeller, Wear Ring and winterizing it.

I actually have the service manual for your seadoo....I don't know how I would go about sending it to you though! PM me and I can try and figure something out!

Edit: Just wanted to clarify...its an electronic copy and its free...

I think you and Karl are saying the same thing. It will cost around $500 ($450 in your case) to get it done somewhere when you could do it yourself for $50!

You might not need an impeller. The wear ring is suppose to wear out to prevent the impeller from needing to be replaced. The wear ring is made of a plastic to do it's job properly...wear out...check the impeller for clearance to see if it is just the wear ring. If the impeller is bent or nicked, then it might need replacement.
