Well the 96 XP I just picked up has the original gray lines on it so I'm going to replace those and attempt my 1st carb rebuild. This coming from a guy that's mechanical experience goes as far as changing plugs and oil on an engine. Hopefully I don't destroy this thing lol.

Any recommendations on where to pick up a rebuild kit? Not even sure which one I need. Probably another dumb question, but do I need 2 kits? 1 for each carb, or are they sold as a pair. Also will I need anything that doesn't come with the kit such as a different spring for the needle and seat etc? Thanks in advance for the help, trust me I appreciate it!

*Edit*
Actually one last question, as far as the fuel lines go. Can I just pick up 25 feet of any old 1/4in non- fuel injection fuel lines from an Auto Zone, or is there something special I will need?

hey....seadoosource.com, parkeryamaha.com, "PARTS" tab on this site.com,.heres settings/specs for your carbs....1996 XP 787 ..(2)-BN-40I carbs, main jets=142.5/pilot=70,(1.5)=needle and seat size, (23-43)=psi for n/s to pop, LOW=low speed adjustment, HIGH=high speed adjustment...good luck, chief.

.If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store.

I hope this helps.

So just any black 1/4 inch fuel line will work?

Thanks man, I understand what the pop off pressure is, but not sure what the main jet/pilot numbers tell me unfortunately : (

Yes, any 1/4" FUEL line will work. as for the popoff...if the engine is stock, just make sure the tang on the needle valve is level to the carb body. Use a razor blade to be sure it is level.

Unless you are changing jets (altitude changes, aftermarket flame arrestors) don't worry about them.

Yes any 1/4" fuel hose will work. Fuel injected marine grade is the highest quality. But many of us subscribe to using regular non-FI auto hose.

And you need one carb kit per carb - unless you are dealing with seadoosource.com which should be priced for the pair.

similar problem

I have a 96 SP and I only have one carburator. I've rebuilt carbs before, but I need to get it out first. HOW DO I TAKE OFF THE ROTORY VALVE COVER??????:ack:

take airbox/lid off first, then if you cant get to the 2bolts hold'n carb on, then theres 4 bolts that hold the rotary plate on, there not the allen bolts...
