I bought a slightly disassembled 1994 XP. I was told it would run if the carb. was rebuilt but after a day of playing with it we couldn't get it to pull fuel from the carb. It felt like it had good compression but when we pulled the head Cylinder 1 had a cracked ring and a gouged wall.

The current engine is a 657.

Would it be more practical to buy a running 700cc+ long block, or rebuild the top end on what I have?

What about top end swaps? Will a 717 bolt on? I am sure the carb and electronics will swap over if the top end will mate to the bottom end. The carb. size shouldn't be an issue because there really isn't much of a difference in displacement.

Are there any major companies to avoid in the PWC Aftermarket? If I go with a rebuild I would like to get a good deal without having my boat burn down shortly after installation. :hat:

ur choice...

if you dont want it to burn down, then i'd stick with 657 parts, for 657 engines...
With scraped wall/s, then a bore is must, that'llset up back, 50buks,then a complete topend, around 250buks, w/ gaskets. So, ur in to it around 300-325 buks, with no warranty,, and alot of prayer, hope'n shee stay alive, OR you can call SBT/SEADOOWAREHOUSE(parts tab above), and for 750 buks, get a complete std. bore motor WITH 2YR NO FAULT WARRANTY...?

The engine is out.

If the bottom end is still in spec the motor is getting just a top end rebuild.

This weeks to do list:

-Degrease and thoroughly clean engine compartment
-Remove oil system
-Scrub + Paint ride plate and intake grill
-Clean any corroded electrical connections
-Prep hood for paint
-Re-cover seat
