Hey guys got another one for ya.....my spx runs great out of the hole but at top end it bogs up and down. Its almost feels like its cavitating but with out actually cavitating. Its more like if you were to feather the throttle up and down and feel the stop and go momentum. It runs smooth and starts fine and on the trailer it will run wide open with no issues until I put it in the water under load. Does this sound like a carb issue? A buddy mentined some sort of filter that possibly needs to be cleaned on the carbs????

Thanks for the help fellas!

Rpm...

What is your tach showing you? Is it possible that your hitting the rev limiter? And it seems you talking about running WOT on the trailer, out of the water. If so, that is bad news on the motor. It could possibly free spin on you and you'll have a hard time getting it to stop, until the engine locks up. It would be compared to holding the throttle to your car down to the floor board while in park.

I'm not running wide open on the trailer...just enough to eliminate the rev limiter as an issue. I do not have a tach on the spx. I did a search and came up with it possibly being the internal filters at the carbs. I'll check these tomorrow and repost results. Thanks for the reply on the issue!

Same problem with 96 GSX

Hello all! New here to seadooforum.com, and am very impressed with it. I figured this was a good place to start my first post since this is the same problem I am having with a 96 GSX.

A brief history:
I bought a used GSX last month and took it out on the water, after an hour being out the engine died, open the seat to find the bilge filled with water. Get a tow back and drain the water. Fix the leak in the exhaust head pipe where the water was coming in, blow the water out of the motor and start it up. Runs fine with a few hickups.

Whats happening now:
When I take it out on the water at WOT the engine starts to surge. Before the flooding I could get the RPM upto 7120 no problem, now the max i can get out of it is 6500. When I hold WOT the RPM goto 6500 and then drop off from tiime to time to 4900 then back upto 6500. My friend riding behind me says when this is happening that the exhaust smells rich. If i hold 3/4 throttle I sit at 6200 RPM with no problems and can still do like 55mph on the water. Also I changed out the plugs and that did not help.

I guess with gas prices at $4.00 a gallon, not being able to use WOT is not a bad thing, but annoying when you are try to keep up with a RSX 215...

Any input would be great.

THANKS!!!
