Ok so I was out for about an hour engines started fine and went for a nice ride. Docked it up for 4 hours and about to go for a nice evening lagoon cruise. Engines were cranking and about to start, BUT I was losing battery power. Pulled the lanyard out tried again and nothing but a click. Charged the battery, and nothing. I have a 3 week old battery in. This is the 2nd time this has happened. What can cause a premature draining in this battery? I had the interior lights on for only about a minute. What kind of battery should I be using with this boat? I have 800 CCA now. I don't understand.

Thanks,

John

Are you buying crappy batteries? Batteries from Wal-mart, Chief Auto (and it's family) and Interstate SUCK !!!!! I've seen a bunch of batteries from those places be bad "out of the box" so many times... that I wouldn't use them, even if someone gave one to me.

If you are using a legit brand (Die-hard, Yuwasa, Panasonic, Optima, etc) and you are having a draining issue... then you have a draw on it. If you have a draw... then turn off your battery switch, and that should take care of the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. I always leave my battery switch off when not in use. What other electrical issues could it be? Rectifier?

If you are turning off the battery... then nothing should be draining it. BUT... if you aren't charging... then that's a prob. Did you check to see if you are charging?

It drains when I crank it to start it. It's a slow death. Just charged the battery for 2 hours and starts and runs fine. I have 12.8 volts not running and 14 volts running. Don't understand how it's happening.

I think what Dr H means that you are not keeping the battery charged with your boat system......
Others will tell you exactly what is wrong with it.

Seems like it was a bad connection to the battery. It happens often enough where I have to do something about it. But not exactly sure what.
