Howdy Everyone,

I am a brand new Seadoo owner and just bought this 99 GTI with 717 engine from a respectable boat mechanic, actually he is the local Bombardier master tech. So I took the boat out for its maiden voyage with me yesterday in the Gulf of Mexico and admittedly I was idling in the water (20 min) as we were waiting for another boat to arrive to take the rest of my family and stuff out to sanibel island.

Out to the island (2 miles) Seadoo ran great lots of power, no issues so I tie it up for about 30min. Then of course the kids want to go out on rides and it was hard to start, had to pull the choke a bit then kept stalling. Seemed loaded up so I was able to gradually feather the throttle and get it up to speed without issues. But it took about a good 3 min of lightly pushing the throttle further and further and again once it opened up, going slow or fast is was completely fine.

The problem seems to be only on starting (every time) or idling for periods of time. So I pulled the plugs which seem new and they are full of soot, black, and smell like gas. Here are my thoughts on this, considering I have limited experience anyone that can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

Clearly it's running rich based on the plugs

1. Replace the plugs
2. Don't idle too much or for long periods of time.
3. Adjust the idle up a bit
4. Adjust the low speed screw (lean?)

Anything I am off with here let me know, I appreciate any help being a newbie to the Seadoo club.

Hi & Welcome to the forum.
Was the engine broken in properly after the rebuild? Were you the first to ride it after the rebuild?

Hi Seadoobuddy!

Thanks for the welcome and reaching out. Yes the engine was broken in after the rebuild. It had about 5 hours put on it before I purchased the boat. Also I noticed something about fuel lines that has been a common thread on here. The Seadoo still has the old style grey fuel lines in it but...again the plugs indicated a being full of black soot, were a little wet and smelled like fuel. Before I took it in the water I had it on a hose twice for 2-3 minutes and started right up without any problems.

Hope this helps...and thank you again :)

I see I may have put this in the wrong forum so I started a new thread in the appropriate one, my apologies to everyone.
