99 GSX LTD - Ignition Coil Question

Does anyone know the acceptable tolerance for the ignition coils in a 99 GSX LTD (947cc motor)?? My service manual says the coils should ohm out around 0.4 - 0.6 ohm, and I'm measuring 1.1 ohm.. Should I replace them?? I am having 'hole shot' acceleration issues. I have rebuilt the carbs and trying to nail down my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!

You may be starting to short internal.

Are you having a spark issue?

If you have a bog on the hole-shot... I would be more inclined to say you have a reed that's cracked, or you accelerator pump isn't working.

Have you checked your compression?

Well... What puzzles me is that both coils measure about 1.1 ohms. The book says max resistance is 0.6 ohm. I'm trying to figure out why my SeaDoo is struggling in the lower power band (1/8 to 3/4 throttle). The service manual says replace coils if out of range. I'm just wandering if anyone else would recommend replacing the coils?? I'm tryin to stomp out any fires that may affect my ski. Thanks for your reply!!

What are you using to read the coils? It takes a pretty good meter to read that low of ohm's accurately. I would check my meter against a known source of resistance in that range before I go and replace the coils. You might be able to go to some electronics store and buy a resistor with 0 to very low tolerance to check it against.

I have a 'Fluke' VOM. It is one of the best in the electrical industry (I think). Although, you are right, it wouldn't hurt to check it with another VOM.

Fluke is top of the line stuff. I have a fluke digital VOM as my bench meter. It is going to give you as close as you can get, but I agree it wouldn't hurt to check against known res. You might pick up a small plug tester, the kind that hooks between your plug wire and the plug itself and has a clear window to see the spark. If it is jumping across there I don't think I would be to concerned about the coils. IMHO

I just looked at your post a little closer, and I did find an issue with the accelerator pump. One of the accelerator pump nozzles was blocked and all the fuel was going to one carb when actuated. I cleaned out the nozzle and they are both working now. Still haven't put the carbs back on and tried though. Do you think this could have caused my hole shot issue??
